Division: Division 4 Conference: Conference 1
Game Number: 247 Game Date: 2009-07-11

Having won the toss the Surrey Warriors' skipper decided to take the gamble and elected to bat first. Their batting was rocked by a combination of consistent bowling and some lackluster shot selection. The team was reeling at 26 for 4 with the top four back in the pavilion, it was once again left to the middle order to perform a rescue act, which they have done admirably well so far this season. Their past experience helped them negotiate a charged up cosmos bowling attack, curbing their attacking instincts and nudge around for singles.

If not for the contributions of Parminder and sumeet the team would have ended up embarrassing themselves. Gurjit, coming in at number 11 was the surprise package though; with some tremendous shot making he would have given the blushes to his top order batters. S.Bhammi & Harmeet were the chief destructors for cosmos picking up 3 wickets apiece, while giving close to nothing away.

The last wicket partnership of 37 runs between Sumeet & Gurjit will eventually prove the deciding factor in this low scoring thriller. Finally settling for a score of 121, all was not lost for the Warriors though. They have bundled out teams for less than that score in the past but never bowling second. A pep talk by the skipper during the innings break made everybody understand the obvious. If they have to pull this one off, they would have to have a brilliant day in the field straining every sinew and earning the win.

Leaking runs to the tune of 4.5 an over for five overs, the Warriors' bowlers suddenly realized what lengths to bowl and wickets started falling in a heap. Roohbir started it all dealing a double blow in one inspiring over which turned the tide around. A sequence of two close LBW shouts and a juggling catch at deep mid wicket followed by an around the wicket leg stump uprooting peach, was enough to sink rick to his knees, Sampras style.

Now the bowlers rallied around and turned the screws on to make life difficult for the batters. Sukhi proved he is as much a deceptive bowler as a thinking bowler, mixing up his bagful of leggies, offies and quicker ones. Except for Garmail who took him to the cleaners none of the other batsmen never really knew what to except. Just when a partnership seemed looming Sumeet drove the final nail in the coffin, handing the home team a comprehensive win under the circumstance.

Defending such a modest score would have done a world of good to the confidence of Warriors' bowlers. Beating cosmos twice the Warriors would hold the psychological advantage the next time these two teams meet.

Division: Division 4 Conference: Conference 1
Game Number: 224 Game Date: 2009-07-04

Having won the toss and electing to field on a bright day, the Surrey Warriors' skipper tarun would have been pretty pleased by restricting Arbutus to 157. Considering the fact that the Warriors were a bowler short and had had to employ their keeper's slow tweakers to fill in, it was a total they would be content with at the half way mark.

sapan & sukhi being the pick of the bowlers taking 3 wickets apiece. The Arbutus batsmen having not able to string together decent partnerships, kept loosing wickets at the wrong time and none of their batsmen really converted their starts.

Facing the two best bowlers of the division did not do any good to the Warriors' already under pressure batters. Loosing wickets in a heap and unable to get going, they were plucking and prodding tentatively at 13 for 3 under 9 overs. Under immense pressure the stage was perfectly set for tarun. Passing some anxious moments at the start, he grew in confidence once some of his trademark flicks unfurled. with the able support of harmeet, they set about resurrecting the innings. When nothing seemed to be going their way, daljit came to bowl and snapped up two crucial wickets in an over; crawling Arbutus back into the game.

Tarun now have had enough of watching wickets tumble at the other end, decided to take it upon himself to get the team across the line. He made sure he faced most of the deliveries, refusing singles and dealing only in boundaries. There was a point in the match, when there were four boundary riders just on the leg side and tarun still came down the track and smoked one, which went sailing over their head.

There was one final twist to the tale when the number 10 had to face one full over. With the whole Warriors team right on the edge of the boundary, every defended ball was cheered. It wasn't quite aesthetic but it did the job alright. A maiden over at that stage, but what was more important was tarun was back on strike for the next over, without adding any more twists to this already roller-coaster of a match.

In a fitting demeanor tarun thrashed the very first ball of the next over towards deep mid-wicket boundary sealing the nail biter. Unbeaten on 95, the skipper proved his worth to the team; yet again.

Surrey warriors went into the match still ruing the missed opportunity of a win, snatched from their grasp the last time these two teams met. By the end of the match with a nine wicket annihilation of Surrey stars, revenge would be sweet!.

Surrey Warriors with a well balanced side decided to bowl first after winning the toss on a cloudy day. Their bowlers hit the right note from the very beginning never allowing surrey stars' batsmen to cut loose. The skippers decision to bowl first was vindicated when the home team was bundled for 105 inside 32 overs. Judhvir came in as first change and had a magnificent day. With his accuracy and length he was Surrey Stars' nemesis picking up wickets at will and never allowed the batsmen to grow in confidence. The fielders backed their bowlers by stopping the singles, adding to the already mounting pressure.

The one handed stunner tarun took standing at first slip to remove somji, diving to his wrong side summed up the intensity level the boys showed today. Having already taken 6 wickets and relishing from his success with the ball, Judhvir came to open the Warriors' innings and straight away went on the rampage, scoring an attacking 50 notout and with able support from tarun, made the run chase look like a walk in the park. Such was warriors' dominance, bowlers of the caliber of Thato & Rishab were treated with disdain and hit for sixes which landed on the roof of a neighboring house.

The margin of victory, 9 wickets and 147 balls to spare was as emphatic a victory as it can ever get.

A game totally dominated by the Warriors, when they bundled the visitors for 57 within 21 overs and then scoring the required within the 17th over with 7wkts to spare. It couldn't have been better for the home team giving them the confidence and momentum going into the 2nd round.

Sukhdeep had a remarkable day on the field where he took 3 excellent catches to go with an alert stumping chance. He then came back with the bat scoring an unbeaten 31 to finish things off rather quickly.

It was a commendable performance by the bowlers to have restricted a team like Salim Akbar for 57. Hariharan was the pick of the bowlers with his nagging line and length picking up 4 wickets and the skipper Tarun 'as ever' with his loop and turn picked up two wickets to bring a rather premature end to the visiting team's innings. Having been humiliated by Arbutus in the previous game Surrey warriors bounced back and bounced back they did in style.
